"Please insert a disc"??????????

I´m using a LG DRD 8160B in my PIII, 700mhrz, with XP and got some problems to read my regular DVD discs. The system simply doesn´t recognize the disc in the drive, the regular CDs and CD-R work perfectly... I´ve tried to upgrade the firmware, change the player software and nothing happens. What´s funny is that sometimes the drive recognize the disc, just sometimes, and different DVDs, I thought it was a problem with the discs and wasn´t...
Any idea?

I've had that problem with a Sony DVD-ROM and Columbia Tristar DVDs. Never solved the problem

Dirty lens? Flaky DVD laser? (drives use different lasers for DVD and CD)

i have had that same problem!!... i bought the Enough DVD and it doesn't work on my computer (it crashes).... but i have a NEC dvdrom drive... maybe Columbia Tristar is doing something funny with their DVDs..... hmm....

What happens it´s that not only the Columbia DVDs don´t work...

Sorry to say that, but the LG DVD standalones are crap. I've never seen a good one.
