I downloaded the demo from their website and I was able to enode a small avi to mpeg2 and of course the mpeg2 is watermarked. However CCE seems to be alot more difficult to navigate arround in compared to Tmpgenc.
I would like to try to encode to a svcd with CCE but I do not seee any templates nor an option to change screen size to 480x480 ?
I searched here and could not find any simple FAQ's on CCE like you can on Tmpgenc. All FAQ's here for CCE were complicated with using other software DVD2SVCD, bbMpeg, BeSweet.
I hope to use VDub to frame server to CCE and just need to know how to change the filesize in durring the encoding process.
Any tips, faqs or urls would be much appreciated...

A very simple way is to load the .avi into FitCD, which can generate an avisynth script which will load into CCE to encode at SVCD resolution.
Or, you can go via TMPG (SVCD template) by saving a project file (.tpr). This can be converted by VFAPI Converter to pseudo-avi which will also load into CCE.
Also, www.doom9.org has guides which will let you create SVCD with CCE using DVD2SVCD. -
Thanks muchly for your reply but those faq's all include info on other utils as well (DVD2SVCD, VFAP, etc). I'm interested in a faq that ONLY deals with CCE and nothing else.
Thanks -

Ok, then here is my understanding of the process.
Scenario :
I have captured an hour long program from TV as a 640x480 avi and I want to encode it as a svcd compliant mpeg2.
Steps :
1) Bring avi into Vdub and trim out commercials.
2) VDub frameserves to Tmpgenc
3) In Tmpgenc I resize to 480x480 & setup my bitrates
4) I save the file as a project file
5) Open up project file in VFAPI and frameserve it to CCE
Is this correct ? Also my version of VFAPI only allows me to ADD Files with extenstions avs, vdr, d2v....no mention of tpr. Is there a specific version of VFAPI I should be using ?
Seems a bit convuloted to me...but will it work ?
Thanks -

Then I would convert the .tpr to a pseudo-avi with VFAPI Converter. You need at least v.1.05. This again takes seconds, presuming you are encoding the audio separately, which is generally easier and quicker.
This loads into CCE and the encoding begins. In CCE you chose your max, min and average bitrates, presuming you are going for a VBR encode.
If you want something quicker than this then load the edited avi into FitCD and this will create an avisynth script which will resize to SVCD spec, and load directly into CCE.
The only need to frameserve is if you want to do some cropping or add a specific filter. -
banjazzer,
thanks very much for your hand holding and patience...
Boy this is almost as heady as Netware networking support (which I do). This is my day off and I'm supposed to be relaxing...
Just a quick question. Would I be better off cropping using Tmpgenc and VFAPI or using avisynth to crop. Cropping is the only post processing I want to do.
Cheers

If you are happy using avisynth to crop, I think this will be significantly faster.
One thing - if you use one of these methods, you will probably need to alter the default aspect ratio in CCE to SAR(1:1). -
When I open the avisynth script in CCE 2.6 demo I get an error that it is not an avi. My demo 2.5 of CCE does open the script (k1.avs) but I get an error just after it opens the script "cce encoding failed: acmStreamConvert() failed: At least one parameter is invalid.....
This happens when I have audio output selected at 48khz but not at 44khz BUT I want to produce a CVD. I've tried both Stereo and Joint Stereo... -
I never managed to get 2.5 to work. I use 2.64, and have used 2.66, but I always encode the audio separately. I have encoded together with audio with 2.64 but not 2.66. I know there can be issues with audio, but without I have never encountered a problem loading avisynth scripts.
