  1. Is there a limit to the video bitrate that a DVD player will play? It is possible to make a XVCD video that is 5 minutes long with a video bitrate of 20000 kbit/s. Will making a XVCD with a bitrate too high damage your standalone DVD player, or will it simply not play the XVCD?

I am trying to find this out because I have a Toshiba SD3800 DVD player and under the DVD player review, the quantity of kbit/s for a XVCD has not been determined yet.

Basically I have they same questions about the audio bitrate, will too high damage the DVD player, or simply not play?

Another question I have is how can you relate the DVD specs to creating kbit/s of video and audio, or is there no comparison. The specs for my DVD player say video (10 bit, 54 MHz) and audio (24 bit, 192 kHz).

    Thanks.

(I appologize if my questions are dumb, but I am a newbie who just got this DVD player (my first DVD player) less than a week ago.)

  2. There is a bitrate limit for DVD players, however it is not universally set and depends on the player you have. Check the DVD player compatability list to see if there are any comments about the max bitrate your player will accept. If it is not stated then it is going to be a case of trial and error, most players range from about 2000 to 5000. 20000 is way too high, and complete overkill anyway, the max bitrate for DVD is only 9800.

Just read this, sorry I am tired, in that case you will just have to determine it yourself with trial and error. You won't damage your player, if the bitrate is too high the video will skip and jump or not play at all.

  4. I have tried making a XVCD with TMPGEnc that has a bitrate of 5000 kbit/s. When trying to watch it with windows media player, it states that the length of the movie is about 3-4 times the length that it should be.

Am I just going about creating a XVCD wrong, all I did was changed the bitrate value within TMPGEnc to 5000 from 1500. Should I actually be changing the video resolution instead of the bitrate????

I have tried searching for a good guide to creating a XVCD, but they all seem to just show you how to make a VCD.

Any help about this and the basics of making a XVCD would be greatly appreciated. I feel I have a pretty good knowledge of the programs used now, as I have read most of the newbie guides and thouroghly understand them.

  7. When creating an XVCD, remember to change the stream type from mpeg1 video CD to mpeg1 video cd (non-standard). This is found under settings in the system tab.
