DVD-Cloner...does it work?

I am trying to make a decision between DVD X Copy and DVD Cloner and I am wondering what you guys think? Which do you prefer and why? Your input would be appreciated.

Personally, I like DVDXCOPY. It has allowed me to backup about 10 dvd's so far and is about as simple as you can get.

Everyone will have different results no matter what software you use due to all the various PC setups out there.

It is hard to get a program like this to work flawlessly due to the numerous types of DVDs, media, burners etc.

So I can only go by what I have used and I would recommend DVDXCOPY, what they have done so far is tremendous in my opinion. It does cost about $40 more and they both give free updates. But the DVD Cloner support looks shakey, haven't seen a forum for them.

I would think that most people would know this, but just in case there are newbies reading this forum:

If you are trying to back up a single layer DVD then you only need one piece of FREEWARE software: DvdDecrypter. It has the closest to "read DVD, write DVD" of any "method" out there. There are no "this disc copied by XYZ program" things inserted and it doesn't have to reencode (as it's single layer).

Only *IF* the disk is dual layer and over 4.3gb do you have to worry about stripping/resampling/reencoding with programs like DVDXCOPY, DVD-Cloner (whatever it is), or DVD2DVDR, etc....

Just a tip that might save you time...

i downloaded DVD Cloner and when i try to install it comes up saying its missing a dvdport.dll file. When i search on the web for it i get nothing.

How can you tell the difference between single and dual layer?

I JUST got a dvd player for my computer yesterday..I want to back up my 250+ dvd's I have...well at least my favorite ones..

I installed DVD-Cloner for kicks, and it wouldn't even load up to a menu...

the difference between single and dual layer is single layer can only 4.7 gigs or less about 60% of dvds are single layared. dual layer is 4.7 gigs and above. i have tried both dvdxcopy and dvd cloner and both are rip offs and a waste of money.

The vast majority of Hollywood releases will be on dual-layed discs, however.

The easiest way to tell is to just look at the disc bottom.

A dual-layered disc will have a slightly golden hue.

A single-layered disc will be straight silver (just like an ordinary CD).

DVD Cloner works about 60% of the time for me. DVDXCOPY seems to work better....but I still get the glitching at some point during the movie. .with both programs. I'm new to this so I'm still searching for the answer to this problem.

I have the same glitches (pixelation, freezing, skipping) when I use cheap media. I don't have these problems when I use good media. You get what you pay for I guess.
