I have a DVD I got for chistmas which is encoded using DTS and I want to rip just the audio and make it into a CD, so I need all the tracks breaks.
I tried a couple of searches but wasn't sure what the best search string would be....
Does it matter whether it is in DD or DTS?
Thanks!

I don't think that is what I am trying to do.
I have the Live Nine Inch Nails DVD which I would like on an audio CD so I can listen to the live tracks in my car.
So, I don't need to worry about ripping video, but I do need to worry about the audio being broken into tracks so I can burn onto an audio CD. -
To evaluate on Doggiedaddy is trying to say, you need to rip the parts of the DVD you want to have as your music cd. Then use DVD2AVI and load the VOB's into it, and save a project. When DVD2AVI does this you will be left with a .WAV file of the audio which you can then convert to which ever format you want.

no, to do that youll need to rip the appropriate chapters, smartripper is good for this.
unfortunately there isnt a one click solution for what you want to do.But it sure is possibleThe Hellsing family will purify this world... -
Yeah, I figured there wasn't a one-step process.
Can you outline the basic steps and the tools and I can probably figure out how they work (I use to rip DVDs a few years ago so I am somewhat familar, although probably outdated).
I assume the process is similar to this:
1 - Rip tracks to VOB on harddrive
2 - Use SomeAudioTool to extract chapters to audio format
3 - Burn CD
Fill in the blanks for tools to use and if possible a locations to guides about using each tool. -
You could stream rip to get the audio(ac3) file out,but the chapter stops are embedded in the vob stream. You could try using Ifoedit 95 to save the cell/chapter stops and then try authoring without the video, don't know if that's possible?

The easiest way I have found to split up a wav file is cd wave editor. It takes 5 minutes to do a wav file from a concert dvd, it is very easy to use. Just extract your wav file from the vobs using dvd2avi and then load the wav into wave editor. Then just hit "split" at each song break and save all the resulting wav's. It's pretty basic! Remember to use dvd2avi to convert to 44100 as well or your cd player wont like it.

Thanks for the replys....
When you say "Just extract your wav file from the vobs using dvd2avi and then load the wav into dvd2avi"
Do you mean "Just extract your wav file from the vobs using dvd2avi and then load the wav into CD Wave Editor"
If not, where does CD Wave Editor come into play?
Does DVD2AVI have the option to do just audio? Is DVD2AVI pretty easy to use? Do you have a guide you can suggest that is pretty easy to follow? -
Sorry you're right! Into wave editor I meant.... Also, its probably better to try and find out which track is just the stereo (most concert dvd's should have a stereo track or PCM) and use that one. Sometimes vocals get a bit lost if you use a DD 5.1 track and convert it to stereo to play on a stereo (L and R only) system.

You are ripping the vobs to your hard drive, then using dvd2avi to extract the audio from those vobs in the form of a wav. Play around with it for a while and you'll get it. Remember, you need lots of free hard drive space - at least 7 or 8 gigs. -
I am brand new to this forum so I don't want to cross any lines....
Hell No, I am not buying the audio CD version of the same concert that I own on DVD.
I paid $30 (well, my wife did) for the DVD and if I want to listen to DVD in my car then I believe that is justified under fair use.
In fact, isn't their legisaltion that allows for making personal back ups. -
Once you have ripped the dvd onto your hard drive, load the vob files into dvd2avi, do this by starting up dvd2avi and then select File --> Open
Then select the first vob file and press open, dvd2avi should automatically select the rest for you, if it doesnt (for example it selects 1 to 9 and there are 20) , click on the add button and select number 10 (the next vob file in the sequence). When all vob's are loaded press OK.
Next step is to select File --> Save Project
give it a name and then let it go till its finished, you will know when its finished cause it will say Finished in the bottom of the Statistic Window on the right(This will appear when you start saving your project)
Then goto the folder you saved the project in and you will see that dvd2avi has given you a WAV file from the vob's you loaded in. This will be in one piece and as mentioned above will need editing in a sound program. Delete everything but the WAV and you have succesfully ripped the sound from the dvd.
This isnt everything you could do, but play around youll get thereThe Hellsing family will purify this world... -
why do people go through all of this? i pass through to record my dvds and i think they look great and sound good.
hook your dvd to your vcr in
hook your vcr to your computer via video out
then capture until your hearts content!
i did that for a friend who had a staind live dvd i capped the audio(pass through) one track at a time then i had 12 trax that i just drug into nero and i was bouncin it my car that same day and only an hour of work!
i do video the same way and i like the results
