  1. I new to all of this and have read till I'm blue in the face, so now I'm asking for your help.
I have split my mpeg fill into two parts so the will fit on a cdr. I'm trying to burn them with Nero 5.5.1.97 with all the updates and for the life of me the vcd won't work.
I put the file into the "Track" window of Nero and burn it as a vcd but when I try to play it, nothing happens but it pulls up the windows explorer.
Am I putting it in the right place in Nero?
I'm using WinXP Pro. Any help will be greatful.
    Thanks
    TomP

  2. WinXP does not have a built-in VCD player. You should attempt to play with a software DVD player like PowerDVD. You can play the individual DAT files which are the MPEGs with Mediaplayer.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

Thanks for the reply. I have tried it with the file player and the video cd player all to no avail.
I think I just don't understan what I'm doing. Would you be so kind as to post the steps I need to do to get vcd and dvd burned?
Like converting, authrozing etc: Not broken down. I can do that.
If I have the steps I need, I think I may get the hang of it.
    Many Thanks:

To view a VCD movie using the ATI File Player:

    1. Place your VCD in a drive
    2. Open ATI file player
    3. On the control console click the folder icon
    4. For type of file, select all files
    5. In the "Look in" field browse into the MPEGAV folder on the CD
    6. Select the AVSEQ01.dat file and click open
    7. The VCD should then begin playing.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. It worked.
Is this vcd suppose to auto start? If so, would you know how I can get this to work?

how to change the CDRW burning speed ? My burning software won't let me burn at 1x but 8x. Burning a mpeg at 8x is not supported for my DVD/VCD player on Home sys.

The VCDs I have made, and commercial VCDs (I have) do not autostart, I have to open some sort of file player, VCD player or DVD player software and then depending upon the specific program it may or may not start after I have opened the player software. If they do not start then I have to click play in the program or point the program to the CD drive in which the VCD is or point the program to the dat file.

In the ATI MMC (I believe version 7.5 and later) if you do a full install there is a VCD player program. When I inserted the CD nothing happened. When I opened the Video CD player program, the VCD immediately started playing.

I'm not really well versed in this ATI MMC stuff, I rarely use it, but as you can tell I do sometimes experiment to try to help others out.

Sorry, I missed one of your many posts in this thread. I gather you do have the ATI VCD Player software. Like I said in my previous post if I insert the VCD first, then open the ATI VCD Player software it starts playing immediately. I just checked and it does this in either my DVD-ROM or CD-RW drive, without changing settings.

In the setup for the ATI VCD Player software, go to the Preferences tab. Check to make sure "Automatically play CD if present" is checked. That is about the only thing I can find.

Thanks for the help. I found out why it wouldn't play. It was due to my DVD player said it would play VCDs and I was burning on a CD-R so it wouldn't work. I just tried using "trial and error" and used a CD-RW and it worked fine.
Thanks to all for you help and all have a very happy new year.
