As i was converting an avi video to an mpeg when it got to 27% a message came up saying there was a write error and i had to cancel the whole thing can anyone help.[/quote]

You probably have bad frames in the source file. You can use VirtualDub to check to see if you have bad frames because this might be the main reason why TMPGEnc is stopping a 27%. Here's a guide that can take out bad frames:
