i am getting new hard drives 1st i would like to know how much hard drive space can windows 2000 use .second i have four drives two ibm 60gxp i plant to pur them in raid 0 a 30 gig 7200 rpm as the main and an 80 gig as a dump to hold things my question is what would be the best way to do this is it better to have the os on the raid drives and forget about the 30 gigs or have the 30 gig for the os and the video go to the raid drive or will have the os on the 30 gig 7200 slow it so it would not matter that they are striped in raid meaning it would still be wait on the 30 to send the info to the raid drive can someone clear this up

win2k can use several terabytes of disk space
os on its own drive
whether raid or ata100 will give you best performance for sustained read/write depends on the drives, i don't know anything about 60gxp's. raid is probably the way to go for video capture though, as striping a pair of recent drives should beat a single one. -
as patrickm stated 'windoze 2000' will reconize several terabytes - coming soon ! !
**warning** for RAID 0 (striping) - IF one drive crashes you will loose your data. But you proberly knew that , so i'll go away now......................

but should i bother using the 30 gigs for the os or put it all on the raid drives

Puting OS and everything on raid would not be a good idea. The OS would be twice as likely to die from a hard drive problem, and having all that different I/O on one (logical) disk destination would cause a fair amount of head seeking and possibly slow things down.
Put the OS on the 30 gig drive, but as the second partition. Make the first partition about a gig and reserve it for your swap file. That way your virtual memory will be the fastest possible for a single drive (by having it at the front of the drive, and not being fragmented by other files).
