i saw these dvd recorders on the internet. I am trying to do professional quality conversions from vhs and analog sources to dvd.

am i better off going the computer route with a high quality capture card and dvd burner or just buying this dvd recorder?

what are some advantages of each?

the OX DVA-2100 VDR listed there makes VCD's ... most of those machines are crap ...

the other two machines are all right i guess -- probem is you cant edit that much if at all and cant add custom menu's

since VHS needs filtering for somewhat decent look -- better to do in software usually --

if speed is the issue -- use a hardware solution ..

  3. Keep in mind VHS captures are worse on a capture card ( video sync problems) unless you get a TBC to go in between your connections.
Now any of the Panasonic DVD recoders out there from $600 to $1000 have full frame TBC on them and do great jobs copying VHS tapes, but you are limited on your edits and NO custom menu's.
The hard drive in the HR2 panasonic is great cause you can delete down to the frame of un wanted material, but they are straight cuts, no transitional scene changes, but its 2-3 times quicker than using a computer, but the computer with a good capture card, DVD burner and either Uleads media Studio pro of adobe premiere 6 or 7 can really make a professional looking product, add hollywoodfx pro transitional scene maker and will wow your customers. But it takes time, time, time but any good looking product usually does.
