Hello all.
ok, I got a knew question for yas..
In my divX'ing endeavors, I am NOW trying to get the most out of my audio.
* I'm using vdub and divX v3.11
* in Audio, I set compression to "MPEG Layer-3, and choose 40 kBits/s, 24,000Hz 5KB/s"
-- -- -- Fig A. -- -- --
In using the above Audio method, the sound, isn't too bad, but I think it can
be better.
I've ben messing around with HeadAC3he v0.23a but I'm not too familiar w/
these Audio gizmos.
Any other suggestion for Audio minipulsation/enhancements/reduction in size
for divX encoding alternatives besides mine ??
My Specs are like this:
* Source: satalite
* Capture card: advc-100 (an/dv converter)
* Captur app: DVIO, (using Type 2)
* Audio: 48k
Asside from that, I'm considering to continue using Fig A. as my Audio
process for divX, unless there's a "better quality" process out there.. I'm
all ears
Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you sure you have those settings right ? Mp3 @ 40kbps ? That would sound terrible.

I agree, 40k/24kHz audio will sound pretty bad. Try using at least 96k/44.1kHz. 128k seems to be about the best balance of quality and size with MP3. From a clean digital source like a CD MP3 audio at 160k actually sounds noticably better than 128k, but I don't know if it would make a difference with a satellite signal.

ok, after many hours of trial and error, at this time, I have come up with
this audio setting that seems to be a tiny bit better than my previous setting
and I think I can live with it until I can come up with a better sounding
audio process. Using vdub's own (AFAIK) audio presets, the following
are what I consider fair enough or better for most my needs:
* MPEG Layer-3 at: 40 kBit/s, 24000 Hz, 05KB/s - tv shows etc.
* MPEG Layer-3 at: 96 kBit/s, 44100 Hz, 12KB/s - movies/tv shows
* MPEG Layer-3 at:128 kBit/s, 44100 Hz, 12KB/s - music videos
I've tried using Lame v3.93.1 and seem to here a slight tweety-bird sound
or screetch in the high pitces. I'll stay away from Lame for the time being.
Remember, I'm only just starting out with Audio in my divX encodes, but
considering all that I have seen so far over the internet, peoples were
using 8000Hz sound (much worse than mine) I think the above is more
than enough for my needs. But, I'll continue experimenting w/ these
settings using various sources ie, MTV clips, as these will probably prove
(your) points on quality hits etc.
If there are any other suggestions, I'm all ears.
