it just means that they can read recordable CDs.. the ones people burn on.

  3. That is a very very very very important function!

S/VCD support simply means that the player's firmware will recognise S/VCDs and play them (hopefully properly). This means that the player will play VCDs and SVCDs on pressed media (i.e., professionally made S/VCDs).

The player, however, can't play your homemade S/VCDs if it can't read CD-R media!

  5. Conquest: No it's not, besides, more people should ask. "CDR" does not mean AT ALL that it will play any format of (X)(S)VCD in any way. It only means it uses a laser wavelenght such as it can read the data from CD(R)(W) discs. That is why they also state "VCD"... It is not the same story. One means a laser type, the other means playback of some mpeg types. And VCD playback doesn't seem to mean much either, I once had a toshica that claimed it did, but it didn't play VCD 2.0 without stutters, it played like 0.25 fps lol. And most players that play it all only mention "VCD" on 'em too, so it's hardly useful...

    Hope that helps.
