  1. OK, I'm not all that technically minded, so I'm really not sure why this is happening.

Basicly the problem is that when I'm playing certain VCD's on my standalone DVD player, the sound and video fall out of sync on occasion. the picture seems to speed up for short periods, so overtakes the sound which is playing normally as far as I can tell. It'll stay out of sync for maybe a minute or so, then will magically be back to normal, usually in the next scene. I've no Idea why it does this and it's very irritating.

I'm fairly sure it's not the discs, as they seem to play normally on media player, and the problem isn't always in exactly the same place (rewinding through the problem patch and playing it again can sometimes clear it).

I haven't yet tried the discs in question on another stand alone player, if this is relavent I can terst it and report what happens

The DVD player is an SVA D-1800. Also, it seems to crop the image slightly, especially at the left hand side. Is this a problem associated with this make, and is there some way of fixing it or will I have to replace the player with a different model/brand.

Oh, and incase it has any bearing on anything, I'm playing via a scart lead into a UK TV, and the original source for the VCD's is very likely NTSC. All the DVD options are on the faqctory settings, from a UK supplier. I really hope I can fix this just by fiddling the menus....

  2. most likely the laser reading on your DVD Player is not combining to make it a read successfull operation, I may suggest ripping the VCD and re-encoding it to maybe a lower bitrate....I'd say around 1150K/sec

    k see ya
