  2. When you say all formats, which exactly to you mean?

If you want both the + and - r & r/w, then go with Sony. Normally, +r & +r/w is good enough. -r has a slight advantage in the cost of cheap media now though, but this isn't expected to last.

  3. If you want to playback DVD-Audio, you'd want to get a DVD Multi drive as DVD-Audio is part of the DVD Multi specs. Only problem is, DVD Multi drives can't record to DVD+R/+RW discs like the Sony DRU500.
When you feel that nobody loves you, nobody cares for you, everyone is ignoring you, and people are jealous of you, you should really ask yourself... Am I TOO sexy?

  4. First off would like to say I am a newbie to all of this. I am more into still photography right now and wanted something to create photo slide shows with cool transitions and music to give to family and friends. I tried various programs (Xatshow, Slideshow movbie maker) and converted to vcd and did not like the quality, although Xatshow was not too bad. Tried sVCD but could not get this to play on my SONY DVD player (even though supposedly it supports this format). So I thought I would get a DVD burner and see if this would be any better.

This past weekend I bought a Cendyne, DRV-105 (DVD-R/W) at staples for $299. I wanted to go with this format since my sony DVD player played this format on my TV. Took out my old DVD-ROM, set the jumpers on the cendyne for cable select and installed it. The drive was immediately recognized in XP as a pioneere 105. So the setup was easy.

Doesn't look like the software was that great that came with the drive, but have not tried to play around much with the software yet. I bought pinnacle studio 8 from best buyt for $19.99 (after $50 mail in rebate). I created a simple still photo slide show, and burned it into a Maxell DVD-R at 2X (even though the drive can use 4X, the maxell was only 2X). Surprisingly it burned properly and played on my TV so I was happy with ithe DVD burner. I was very impressed with Studio 8 as well, the pictures looked great and the transitions were cool too.
