I humbly would like your feedback on this DVD mess. From reading, it looks like Sony is the one to go for because it seems to work on everything and it is not that much more than the Pioneer. Here are some questions:
    1. On the Sony DRX500UL - has anyone have it connected to a USB 2.0 port ? If so, are the speeds ok ? EIDE better ?
    2. How well does the Sony (compared to others ?) write to CDs ?
    3. Reading CDs, tiwh MPEG, VCR, SVCR, CD-RWs ? etc, any problems ?
    4. Has anyone had to call their tech support line ?
    5. Are their any compatability problems anyone has had with DVDs or CDs burned by the Sony when played on other equipment ?

    Thanks !!

  2. Just to give you another option. You can buy internal version and external enclosure to make it external. This way you will have option internal/external or you can switch to different drive later and your enclosure stays. I am waiting for my.... it is on the road in braun car.

Please explain to me a little more.

You have it connected EIDE? But there is an external enclosure to use so you can install it extrnally ? To USB ? Firewire ? How is performance and reliability effected.

I've never heard of that. How would that improve things than getting one that is mean for firewire or USB ?

Very interesting solution and I think the internal is about $100 less.

    Tell me more ?

You buy the IDE drive and then you buy either a firewire or USB drive enclosure. Make sure it has the Oxfrod 911 Bridge, a good enclosure is the one by ADS.

If you go USB, you must have USB 2.0 USB 1.1 does not have the bandwith to burn DVDs.
