  1. I am newer than a newbie. I have a DV Sony PC9 (with iLink) and want to edit and convert videos to DVD (or format playable in DVD player). What is the best and user friendly video editing software? I stared at software in the computer store like a monkey doing a math problem. My XP has Windows Movie Maker, but I don't like it because it doesn't do graphics, effects, or titles. With Movie Maker and iLink do I have a capture abiltiy for using other editing software? Or do I still need a card? I searched all over this site before posting but couldn't seem to get my questions answered. Thanks for your help and have a great holiday!

  2. I don't know if it is the best but I have been using software from Pinnacle Systems, Studio 8.

For me it has been flawless. I shoot dv, capture via firewire, edit and add sound, titles and transitions and then can output to vcd, svcd or dvd.

The "best", I think, is supposed to be Adobe Premiere but, being a newbie like yourself, I found the interface a bit difficult but the Pinnacle software is very easy to learn and use.

I've been using Pinnacle Studio since version 7 and its very easy to use. Current version 8 still has bugs, they already released patch 8.3 and are working on 8.5, after that I'm sure things will stable.

I believe I saw Best Buy advertising it for $20 after mail-in rebates (I paid $60 for the upgrade).

  5. Take a look at Uleads Videostudio 6. Lots of features, easy to use. You can download a fully functional demo at ulead.com. Been using it since version2.5 with very few problems. I don't care for Roxio's Videowave. Came with my Dell. It's not as flexiable as Videostudio. I also have Pinnacle Studio 7. Good program too.

  6. Pinnacle was one of the programs I saw at Best Buy so I will probably go with that. Thanks for responding.
