  1. I seem to be seeing different results...?
I need to buy some more cheap media and I was thinking about buying some of the following:

    http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/P-DVDR-4.7-GENPrinco.html

Does this stuff work with the 500a or not? (I have the 1.0d firmware)

  2. I ordered some and they should arrive this Friday. If i'll have time to do some tests, I will post my results here:

    SONY DRU-500A Detail media report

I was able to burm DVDPro (Grade A) from Meritline.com (which is Princo when you look on disk ID), but I had only 1pc so I couldn't test more.

There is another post about Sony and Princo
    DRU500 & Princo DVD-R

I just recieved both my new DRU- 500A and a 25 pack of Princo 1X DVD-Rs. All have burned perfectly so far with original firmware. No problems in standalone either. I purchased media at Allmediaoutlet: good price, no problems with transaction.

  8. Man, I bought 25 at this site with the white gloss.....didn't work at 1X for 1.0d. However, it works at 1X after the firmware update 1.0f.

Why buy this while you can get Ritek DVD-R generic at 2X for the price of 1X? Plus free shipping!!!!

Do you think they going to raised the price of the generic 1X?

It's ok....I just bought 200 more blank Ritek...

  9. Just be aware. My media (bought as 1x) showed in Nero that it is 2x, but real burning speed was jumping up and down and final time corresponded to 1x burn speed.

  10. I just got a pack of 25 Princo's today myself.

Works fine with 1.0f (havent tried older) at 1x only, does not show 2x as an option in Nero.

Burned 2 succesfully so far. Both over 4 gigs and no breakup at the end on my DVD players.

These I think are the normal princos most are getting with the white under the clear top layer.

Donpedro---It is burning at 2X b/c before the upgrade it was taking 45 mins per disc for around 4.2 gig....and now I tested it with the same file and it's taking around 22 mins.

    That's a good point though!!!!

I have the Sony DRU-500a drive. I purchased 100 of the cheap Ritek DVD-R discs. These discs cost me $93 for 100 delivered. They come in pancakes of 25 discs, and each container has a white label on the top which states:
Suggest in Pioneer 104 & A04 under firmware 1.31 version could have 2X writing speed other firmware version or other DVD recorder will have 1X writing speed.
With firmware 1.0d I recorded about 30 of the Riteks at 1X. Afer upgrading to 1.0f firmware, I just today recorded 2 discs at 2X. I am a happy camper.

I also am burning with Riteks at 2x. I bought 2 25 packs, 1 of the 1x princo's and 1 of the Riteks.

Just ordered a 100 of the Riteks.

They both burn great, not one single coaster yet and have like 3 disks left of each 25 pack.

I prefer the Princo surface to the Riteks, but the Riteks work better in my stand alone players.

The Princos work fine in my standalone players even out to 4.4 gig on a DVD, just cant FF at anything over 2x. With the Riteks, I can burn them at 2x and I can FF at 20x on the same DVD player!

So that's why I went with more Riteks.

I will post my manufacture ID's later for both.

  17. I got my 50 princos from http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/P-DVDR-4.7-GENPrinco.html and they work without any problems. Only at 1X though. I still think that it's a good deal since they are the cheapest media around. $0.65 each atm.
