  1. I've made VCD's, SVCD's and X(S)VCD's. All were a compromise either on quality or convenience. I hate swapping discs. Neither looked that great.

With the advent of the DVD+RW drives coming out soon, my VCD days are over. I'll wait to convert anything new to DVD this Winter.

  2. i agree with you to some point, but why don't you get an apex703 or 3disc changer, then when one disc ends you hit "skip disc" and play disc 2 or 3, then you don't have to even get up.

  3. Copying to DVD-RW is fine, but if you take into consideration the price of blanks and the cost of renting a movie, then you may as well just buy the original movie. (copying movies is bad m'kay )

Better yet just set the 703 to "repeat 3 disks" and the 703 will automatically advance to the next disk. I use this feature. It only takes a few seconds to do the advance and with proper cutting it can be done at a point in the SVCD where a scene changes. With the 703 set to automatically advance to the next disk I get 3 gigs to play with on my SVCD's (with overburning 99 minute CDR's). The quality is so close to DVD that I don't ever intend on transferring these SVCD's to whatever I may be using down the road.

By the way I just picked up a second Apex 703 on a Sam's Club auction for $120 (I've seen them go for as low as $110). That's really really cheap for a 3 tray model that can be made region and macro free. I'd never go back to a single tray model if I plan on making SVCD's.
