    Does anybody know if an Xbox w/DVD remote will play VCDs?
    Where is the damn remote?

    No, It won't. But you can get a mod chip and then it will play Divx but I'm not sure about VCD, Probably.

    it plays vcd/svcd divx xvid almost everything but you have to have a modchip to use the homemade software

    Does that mean I have to get a mod chip to watch VCDs period or just ones with menus and chapters?

    Just a warning to you. If you have or plan on playing over XBOX Live it will check for a modchip and ban you XBOX.
