  1. I am adding new stuff to my CPU to try to make the process of backing up my DVD's as painless as possible.. Which is the most important upgrade for me in terms of making the ripping and encoding faster, CPU, Motherboard, Memory, or Video Card... My CPU is going for 800 MHZ to athlon XP 2000(1.6 MHZ).. my MOBO from K7T Pro2a to a KT3 Ultra 2.. I will get 512K DDR ram, and I am wondering if I should change my video card ( I have a Geforce ), I don't plan to do any capturing from a vcr or camcorder.

so I guess my 2 basic questions are

    1. What part is the most important upgrade for me to make the process faster?

2, Is it necessary to change my video card?

thanks for any advise you can give.

  2. processor speed governs how fast the encoding takes. i have a friend who has a 500mhz processor ave encode time 15 hours. i have a 1500mhz processor ave encode time 4 hours, same dvd

  3. thanks for the quick reply.. So do you think going from a XP2000 (1.6 GHZ) to a XP2400 (2.0 GHZ) will shave off enough time to warrant almost $100 price difference?

    thanks

Id say if you can jump from the xp2000 to the xp2400 for only 100 then go for it if ya got the money.

  6. O.k I think I will go for at least a 2 GHZ, which brings me to my next question, I have been hearing that P4's work better in the DVD ripping & encoding process than the Xthlon XP's.. Can I hear some of your results and the CPU's you have?

    thanks
