  1. Hi friends,

I finish my project and now to burn DVD dics NTSC. Testing everything is OK. But when I click Make dics, it appears the error:

"Mpeg audio is not the standard audio type for a NTSC DVD. Do you still want to use it?"

I wonder if I can continue make DVD dics and the dics result will be good.
    I have done something wrong?

    Any advice or idea appreciated.

  2. The reason you get the warning is the audio type you choose for your Make Disk was mpeg 1 layer 2 which is not supported on some of the very early stand-alone DVD players. All the current stand-alone DVD players will play mpeg 1 layer 2. You can also choose LPCM audio from which all stand-alone DVD players can play. NTSC DVD specs (on the left) deso not suppport mpeg 1 layer 2 audio bu itself. LPCM audio uses a lot of disk space and uses about 1.6 KBPS of your video data rate. If you checked 'do not convert compliat files' DVDWS will create the DVD using the audio type of your mpeg 2 file. The audio for your menues will be of the type you selected on Make Disk. Hope this helps.

PS I recommend you update DVDWS to V1.3 available at the Ulead web site.

I always used to wonder about this, considering that the files I was importing into ULead DVD Workshop came right out of ULead Media Studio Pro's own "NTSC DVD" templates...

But since my Apex didn't seem to mind that it wasnt the "standard audio type", I just ignored the error message. And I've never had any problems playing the discs in anyone else's players, so...

(My guess is that the software's complaint is irrelevant to those of us making DVD-R(General) discs, since those "very early players" probably can't recognize DVD-R media either. It probably only matters to people making DVD-R(Authoring) discs which they intend to use as duplication masters for commercial distribution.)

  4. You dont get that warning when authoring PAL discs, so presumably PAL DVD players have always supported mpeg1 layer2 audio.

AFAIK, for audio NTSC standard is PCM and PAL standard is MPEG (Philips, the european giant in this area, has imposed it... or else even today we were to find a new 'universal' standard).

It wasn't supposed to have reg 1 and reg 2 disk all over the world... but thinks came a little different
