  1. Using my SONY digital camcorder I capture to .AVI file. Then convert using TMPGEnc.

But what should I be aiming for? a SVCD or XSVCD. I've read that XSVCD is high resolution but to tell the truth I cant tell (after burning usning NERO-SVCD). Im making the XSCVD using the guildlines from this website i.e. loading the template & then changing the resolution etc.

Is there a difference? and under what circumstaces will I noitice the difference?

    thanks.

    It depends on your xsvcd
Some standalones dont accept out of the standard svcds ( xsvcd ).
try to figure out what is the max bitrate for your standalone, you can try the trial and error process ( will cost you some cd's and time) or check this sites standalone list for any experience from others.
If you can get +200k s or more than it worth the sweat.
Anything under 200 you shouldn't bother with.
By the way If you are so eager of quality, forget NERO Tmpeg and all.
I recommend CCE 3 pass VBR for best results.
Read more in the avi to svcd section on the left
