I need a program that will extract the sound from an AVI file and convert it to a wav file.
Im doing this becuase i am getting alot of sync problems and im hoping that doing the conversion separately will help.
I have used VirtualDub & the Decompress program which comes with AVI2VCD. The problem with Virtualdub was that when i took it in to Adobe Premiere it was far shorter than the video????
When i used the decompressed program and tried playing it i found the sound was also completley out.
The original AVI file is fine, so somewhere along the line something is going wrong!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Help!!!

Try using TMPGEnc. Select as Source file audio your avi file and then go to >>File>>Output to file>>wave file.
Works fine for me -
Using the Save as WAV option in VirtualDub should be all you need to do. Why are you running it through AVI2VCD's decompressor?

I only tried the decompressor program becuase it was the only alternative i could find to Virtual Dub.
However it would appear that after more fiddling around, the problem lies with Adobe and not the wav as i first thought.
For some reason when i bring in the Video section into adobe, the timeline says its 1 hr 18 minutes and 36 seconds. When i bring in the wav i have created from Virtual Dub it says its 1 hr 18 minutes and 30 seconds. I know this doesnt seem like a big difference, but when i preview the file with sound its out by several seconds.
I have to say im getting a little tired and fatigued by sync problems. I wouldnt mind so much if it didnt take four or five hours to find out that the sound doesnt match. And before anyone says anything my problem is that the sync is progressive. Its starts out ok and then half way through the movie it starts to get more and more out of sync - so i cant just try a little section of it to see if it works..... ahhhhh!!!
Maybe if i re-align the deflector dish to send out an inverse polarized tetreon pulse.
If it works every week on Star Trek im sure it must be the answer...........
Not that its sending me nuts or anything....
Their coming to take me away ha, ha....... -
It sounds like Premiere isn't set to the correct frame rate. Make sure it's using the exact same frame rate you see in VirtualDub (where the audio is in synch, correct?).
