My father died in April of this year. As a gift I am making a DVD for my mother from old home movies with him in them.

Problem is I have one 10 minute scene that shows them on the deck on his Navy ship getting re-married by the chaplin.

THis clip has some noise that I would like to remove like wind blowing, people talking. I need to remove that stuff so I only have their voices on the final product.

If it cannot be done, please tell me, otherwise fire away.

  2. If it was me, I'd make a copy of it and put it in a safe place.

Then, I'd demultiplex it (separate the video and audio), open the audio in something like SoundForge and go to work on it. I can't say exactly how I'd reduce the background clutter, because I don't have the clip in front of me, but I'd probably first wipe out everything above and below the frequency range of the voices that you want to keep. My next procedure would probably depend what it sounded like after that.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

It varies from person to person. just adjust the limits until they don't cut off the voices you want to keep, but cut off evrything above the highest and below the lowest of the keeper voices.
