  1. i was playing around with my computer and decided to see if i could burn this short avi video to a cd. guess what? i did it!! i was even more shocked to see that it played on my stand alon dvd player. i kinda felt stupid when i a friend of mines refer to me this site. that when i found out that everyone is doing it. so i went to kazza and found a larger file [tmd] movie title here.(pmtvcd).subbed.ts.(1of2). now when i tried to burn this file using my cd/r it told me that nero does not support this format. however when i right click on the file it tells me its a avi format. so i check this site faq and find out that maybe this file is a svcd. so i decide to download neros mpeg2/svcd plugin. i still cant burn the file to the cd, the error message comes up: unsupported file. can anyone point me in the right direction? or offer me some advice? also i'm using a updated nero program so i dont know what i'm doing wrong.

thanks you all for your help in adivce

    Derrick from NEW YORK CITY.

It may be as simple as just renaming the file to end with .avi (sometimes those kazaa files have wierd names)

  6. derrick718, does the file play on media player before you encode it? sometimes kazaa files are fake. also might help if you re-encode with virtual dub as tmd files use different codecs.

  7. thanks to the help from members on the board i found out what the problem was.

    FIRST PROBLEM

as stated on the board nero would not accept one of the files because it was not a "supported format". however it was avi format. zik zak told me to rename the file since kazaa has a weird long names. it worked!!!

    second problem:

as stated on the board, kazaa has a lot of fake file. part 2 of my movie was indeed a fake file.

nero accepted [tmd]friday.after.next.(pmtvcd).subbed.ts.(1of2) and a new version of part 2.

thanks to all of everyone's help.

nero is now encodeding the files its about 2 hours later and its still encodeding. anyone knows why it takes so long. if not i'm check the FAQ.

thank you vcd4me for your help too

  8. derrick,

how long encoding and converting takes is a question of 'how long is a piece of string?' depending on many factors such as your system's speed (esp. processor speed), the file types (input type and output type), and the software you're using (TMPGEnc, CCE, LSX, DVDx etc..). The reason is that encoding video is a very calculation-intensive task, and even with 2ghz processors etc.. there's still so much number-crunching to be done that it takes a long time - have a look at your CPU usage while a file is encoding. The moral of the story is expect the process to take hours - many people start their encodings going before they go to bed, or before they go to work. 'A watched pot never boils'!!

Another thing - many folk around here will tell you never to use Nero to encode - it's a great burning app, but not that good as a video encoder. You really want to use another encoder to output an mpg file which Nero will accept as a compliant VCD file (i.e. it will not pop up the warning offering to re-encode the video, or turn off compliance). Have a look at the tools section of this site on the left hand side. A few of the most popular encoders are TMPGEnc, DVDx, FlaskMPEG, CCE, LSX etc.. There are free versions of the first 3 in this list, and TMPGEnc is arguably the most popular, but you could read about the pros and cons of all of them for hours on this site.

    anyway welcome to the forum

    cheers,

    mcdruid.

(PS. It's getting to the point where discussing downloading specific copyrighted movies is not such a good idea on these forums - but your original "[tmd] **movie title here** .(pmtvcd).subbed.ts.(1of2)" is probably the right idea.. )
