Hi im a newbie , but have been reading the site info for a couple of months now.
I have been ripping dvd to dvd-r ok up to now.
Having a small problem backing up my copy of Harry potter.
Im using dvd dycrypter - IfoEdit-RE-mpeg2 - Nero PLUS BITRATE CALC.
Im going through the motions and the result at the end is a very blocky
picture but everything else works ok.
Its seem when I remeg the video to the max bitrate its still blocky.
    Any suggestions plz.

  2. This is the problem with Rempeg2 and any movie that has mixed interlaced/progressive material (i.e. any WB movie). There are a bunch of threads in the past about this problem that offer solutions (such as using vobedit to remove the interlaced cell). Personally, I would recommend that you learn how to use TMPGEnc or CCE and skip Rempeg2 all together.

    Hi
So instead of rmpeg2 I will use tmpgedit in its place and save file
****.m2v . Then combine it with ifoedet.
Will this work for me or do I have to change the whole way I backup movies and burn them onto dvd.
    PS Thanks for the reply

  4. Remuxing TMPGEnc encodes with IFOEDIT wasn't successful for me. I would recommend re-authoring instead. Using SpruceUp or DVD Maestro is fairly easy. You WILL lose the original menu and extras, but the main movie will play just fine.

it is also possible to have original menu and extras...

just copy only those authored vob's (not vts_01.0.vob!) in the folder where you have original files (remove all original main movie vob's but not that vts_01.0.vob!)

then use ifoupdate to update the original ifo file and also "get vts sectors"... that's it...

    Zzzzzzzzzzz

Not having a good time with tmpgenc or cce or dvd2avi.
What about that other comment you made,There are a bunch of threads in the past about this problem that offer solutions (such as using vobedit to remove the interlaced cell).

How about explaining that one please .If you may.

  7. yep, totally agree with Adder, thats the way I keep everything, but make sure you rename the authored vobs to the same vts set as the orginal vobs, once the originals have been deleted

I would only be able to find the threads by searching. And since you are just as capable of searching as I am...I will leave you to do the footwork

And Adder is correct, but that also brings in another layer of complexity. I figured that Kacey would have a hard enough time learning to transcode without adding more steps.
