I have been flawlessly using a combination of DVD Decrypter, ReMPEG2, IfoEdit, and NERO for quite awhile now but in the past two days have run into trouble with Reign of Fire and at least two other DVD's I wish to backup. There has been quite a few threads on this and other boards in regards to blocky re-encoding with ReMpeg but up until now I haven't had that trouble (guess I've been lucky!). I've read at least two guides now on using CCE and I don't know what I'm missing but I can't get it to work. Here's what I have so far on Reign of Fire:

    1. Ripped Movie only VOB's to HD
    2. Stripped everything except video and 6ch audio (no subtitles)

So now I have new VOB set in a folder. Normally at this point I would use ReMPEG2, remux with IfoEdit and burn with NERO. If someone could post a easy to follow step-by-step list of what to do next I would REALLY appreciate it as it's obvious that ReMpeg2 just isn't going to give me good results here no matter how many different settings I try. Like I said, I've read two different guides that use two different methods of using CCE and so far I've got a m2v file that is so choppy as to be unwatchable and have dabbled with AviSynth2, etc. and can't seem to make a script that it likes even though I have all the necessary files.

PLEASE HELP! This has become somewhat of an obsession of mine, LOL, and my wife would like me to come back out of the computer room.

    Thanks.

  2. I am no expert but this works for me.... I ripped the main vob files from the movie....use dvd2avi to demux the audio , after dvd2avi it will create a d2v and ac3 file... I then use tmpgenc to transcode using the d2v file and using video option only in tmpgenc.. then the result will be a m2v file.. i then import the file to spruceup and author it....

I don't really need the original menu and stuff.. all I want was to make a good watchable backup... and this process has work for me..

    hope this help

  3. Another simple way to make back up DVDs only with main movies:
Use SmartRipper to rip M2V and AC3 6 channels:
-Choose Streaming Processing, check ...NTSC (4:3 or 16:9) box and AC3
    6 channels box
-Choose Demux to Extra File. Make sure do this for both ...NTSC...and AC3 then Start. After that you would have two files: M2V and AC3.
Now, if M2V + AC3 too big to fit in 1 DVD, use ReMpeg152 to transcode the M2V.
To create DVD file, use SpruceUp, after you got AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The final step to make sure your DVDs compatible is to start up IfoEdit to edit the VTS_01_0.IFO to be as the same as original VTS_01_0.IFO file. That's it! Simple huh! but guaranty 100%. So far I got this work for more than 100 DVDs titles

Remux have never really worked with NTSC FILM DVD.

You need to use Ifoedit0.95 DVD-Author feature instead.

Reign of Fire is just a few MB to big to fit, I chopped it instead.

Thanks for the replies! Though I don't much care about the credits I can't get myself to actually remove 2 minutes of the movie itself no matter how trivial it might be (and in this case, anything post-dragon is pretty trivial! LOL). I'm just too stubborn that way I guess.

Since I do not have the Spruce program can I just remux that .m2v file that TMPGEnc has made with IfoEdit then as long as I still have the .VOB's and .IFO's that have the audio, chapters, etc. just like I would have when using ReMpeg2? I guess the reason I ask is because I've become so familiar with these programs over the past couple of months that the more of them I can still use in a case like this the better. I've messed around with TMPGEnc a bit at your suggestion(s) just to see how it works but before I take the 4-8hours plunge I want to know if I can still use IfoEdit to put it all back together. Other guides have listed DVD Maestro and DVDit, etc. but I don't care to make menus and things like that, I get enough of that when doing my own video, I just want to be able to pop it in and play the movie.

    Thanks again.

  6. I want to know if I can still use IfoEdit to put it all back together.
I have done 30 movies, half of them had to be re-encoded (tmpgenc)

I have only used IFOEDIT for all of them.

    Version0.95 DVD-authoring feature when re-encoding is needed.
