  1. I saw here that it is possible to import SVCD Movies in DVD SP by changing the Header of the MPEG2 from 480x576 to 352x576 so that DVD SP will import it. I ceated also a 128 kbit AC3 Audiofile.
With these Parts, is it possible to author a DVD wich will contain 2 MPeg2 Videos (480x576)???? I know that I have to set the MPEG-Header back to 480x576 before burning the DVD.

Well, tell me your experiences, would be great!

  2. I changed the header from 480x480 to 720x480 and then it was ok to import in dvdsp, but I didn't change back as you said, I've never heard that that should be done. Anyway, the DVD disc worked fine in dvd player on my computer and in vlc, but on my standalone player the video appeared as 480 wide, i.e. the right half of the screen was black.
So maybe it works if you do that changing-back trick...

  4. Here in the forum it is explained how to author a SVCD DVD, but you need Virtual PC an a mentioned Program to change the headers.

I tried to set back the headers to 480x576 but in this case when I open my DVD SP Project again it says me that the m2v files are missing! cause DVD SP won't accept them anymore!!!

Now what I'm going to do now is: open the project with 720x576 movie headers. During the project is open I change the headers in background to the orig 480x576. Then I choose build disc and I try to burn. Well let's see how it works ))))

I used DVD Patcher to change the headers on my 480x480's. first to 352x480,imported into SpruceUp. Close SpruceUp,repatch to 480x480 and restarted Spruce and re-imported the m2v and it has worked everytime.

  6. 1. What is SpruceUp?

    2. You do not need Virtual PC. All you need is hexedit

First: Spruce up is a Windows aplication! Why did he reply in this mac video forum!?!?

Second: What RNC mentioned in this page you mentioned is: "However, I don’t have DVD burner."
I have and this is my experience: ... I burned 2 DVDs. One with the Headers leave set to 720x576 and one with the headers restored to 480x567 while the Project already was open to build the DVD disc.

The playback on a DVD stand alone player was at both DVDs incorrect!

    480x576-Movies with headers to 720x576:
You see a squeezed Movie like 3:3 ratio with fragments at the right side to fill the 4:3 ratio ... strange!

480x576-Movies with headers restored to 480x576:

ok ... no fragments .. movie is shown correct at the middle of the screen ... but its still squeezed, like when the DVD player doesn't plays the video in 4:3 ratio!

    So what I did:
I use ffmpgx to render the movies (DVD source quality) with the mpg2 encoder using generic mpeg2 profile at 720x576! (full DVD size, so DVDSP will accept them, in my case PAL) at a bitrate for example 2250 kbit/s (130 min movie). I reencoded the AC3 file to 128 Kbit/s!
With these settings 2 movies fit on a DVD-R including Sound!
Well the bitrate 2250 Kbit/s isn't that good at 720x576, but when I hear that some people choose even a smaller bitrate to burn a SVCD so that one movie fits on 2! CD-Rs burned at mode2, I think its ok.

In the other case, if your source is a SVCD which you have to rip into its streams, I think its not possible to do the SVCD to DVD job with DVD Studio Pro. In this case I will have a look at the mentioned program "spruce up" maybe its fast enough in virtual pc to do that job an give me a SVCD-DVD Diskimage to burn in Toast.

    Let's check it out!
