ok, i followed the guide, and i know how to do everything there.
my question is this- when i follow the guide precisely, and i preview before encoding, the picture on my monitor does not "fit;" the picture is horizontally compressed, so to speak. now, i don't have the patience or resources to test this myself, but if i burn it to vcd format and view it on a widescreen television (or any tv for that matter) would the video be stretched horizontally to fit the screen and thus look presentable?
my assumption is that it would, because of the NTSC screen size i select, but could someone please confirm this?
thx

i know i'm not supposed to do this, but i really need some help...
^bump^
say the least.
anyways, I don't quite understand your issue, and you didn't mention
WHICH guide you uses, as there are MANY.
Also, you need to share some specs, and fill in the "computer details" so
we can see what you are capable of, etc.

...some divX samples -
ok sorry
here is the guide:
http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/84759.php
just out of curiosity, where are more guides covering this topic? i thought i found a goldmine coming to this site and finding just this one.
specs:
p3 866mhz
128 mb ram
geforce 2 pro
sorry, i dunno if you need more than that...
ok so here's a recap.
i'm trying to turn an "american psycho" divx (750 mb) into a single-disc vcd for viewing on a widescreen television. now, when i follow the guide listed above up until the point where i'm about to start encoding to mpeg-1, i make sure i preview it, and when i do, the height of the movie is okay, but the sides look "squished" (for lack of a better word) to fit the computer screen. kinda like if you resize an image in photoshop but instead of resizing from a corner you resize from one side and the image comes out looking deformed.
here's the question- the picture is squished to fit the computer screen, but if i go ahead and burn it and play it on a dvd player on a widescreen tv, will it become "unsquished" due to the extended width of the screen and thus look like normal?
lua- i'm pretty sure i do (i'm following the guide), but i'll check again. that does make sense.
thx
edit: lua - no i don't, but i don't see where i'm supposed to select that option. help? -
if your making standard vcd I doubt you will be able to fit it all on one cd, unless the movie is less than the total amount of mins on your cd. cause VCD is a standard rate its like using a video tape, its not size its time that counts. I assume your either trying to make a XVCD or an SVCD. as for the framesize on your pc it really matters not, as its correct for what your making ie 480x480 for NTSC SVCD it will play right.
In short the only way to know is to burn it and try it, I suggest investing into a cd-rw these things are great for such testsand on a final note, if your short on patience I seriously advise you not to get to heavily into Digital Video cause its a very trying thing to learn and then even for the experts it still has its moments (Am I right folks?)
well good luck anyway and keep cool
