    Hi all,
Everyong seems to be asking where all the cheap media is...mostly in the US....however the cost of posting over here (in Oz) can even out so that the cost-per-disk is the same or a little less (is saving $0.50 worth the wait?).

So here is a question for vcdhelp.com members in Australia...

Where do you get your media from, is it cheap and is it any good?

For me, I've seen www.salesmart.com.au mentioned on the forums but never purchased from them. Here is what I have purchased.

    Legacy 2x DVD-R in DVD cases - $4.70 ea from www.dcss.com.au.
    - No coasters yet (except for my own stuffups...not authoring properly)
Apple 2x DVD-R in jewel cases - $55.00 for a box of 5 from Apple stores
    - No coasters yet but are just a bit expensive
    Princo 1x DVD-R in paper slips - $45.00 for 12 from ebay
    - The most crap disks I've ever had the misfortune to work with. 50% strike rate so far...also, of the disks that did work there are visable 'blotches' on the disk....look like unwritten areas on the disk (and various playback problems that I assume are associated)

What are your stories ??? Do people know of any hidden jems ("Here, use my dvd-r dealer...he's good") etc. etc. 8)

  2. I have a Pioneer DVR-A05.

I have only tried the Pioneer disks and quite a few from Salesmart (20+). Also 1 Max Max.

The DVD-R I got from salesmart were in paper sleeves, they cost $A3.50 each. These are actually Princo discs, but are nothing like you have described, the surface finish is very good. All have burned and verified no problems, they play fine in my JVC DVD player. I would recommend these disks.

I wonder if there are different grades of Princo disks, or inferior copies. The reports on Princo seem to vary, but I have heard quite a few good comments about the Salesmart discs.

The Max Max cost $A3.85 and also burned no problems, but I have only tried the one.

    Bartman,

You could have a look at www.thediscshop.com.au for -/+ R's (Laser, That's, Verbatim brands) or as you suggest DCSS. I have used Legacy +R's (ex DCSS) 2.4x for 6 months now...no issues. +R's in Oz are around the 6 to 7 bucks a throw here tho. The Minus discs Max 2x are around 4 bucks each up to 4x at same as +R prices. Nope I have not found anyone that is truly cheap in Oz...sorry

    Regards
