  1. After installing my DRU500A, I tried using Pinnacle Studio 8 to burn a DVD of home movies. Studio didn't recognize that I had a DVD burner. I installed MyDVD (and none of the other s/w that came with the drive) and then Studio recognized the burner. I burned a Maxell DVD+R with Studio and it worked perfectly in my DVD Player (Sony DVPNC650V or something like that).

I then upgraded to firmware 1.0d. Studio has since been unable to burn a DVD that is readable in either the DVD Player or even the DRU500A.

I would really appreciate if anyone can explain:

Why does Studio's ability to see the DRU500A depend on MyDVD being installed? (If I uninstall it, Studio doesn't see the drive again.)

Would updating the frimware have affected Studio's ability to burn a readable DVD? If anything, I would have expected it to be better.

I am able to consistently burn readable DVDs with MyDVD.

    Thanks very much.

  2. I have the same setup as you do (Studio8 and DRU-500a). I haven't been able to get Studio8 to work with the DRU-500a.

I did use the MyDVD that came bundled with the player to make some simple projects and have successfully burned DVD-R and DVD-RW multiple times and played these in at least 3 different players...

    UNTIL...

I upgraded the firmware and now DVD-R and -RW burned are not recognized in my Sony player (don't remember the model currently) and when played in a JVC TV/DVD/VCR combo I get periods where the playback hangs and you can hear the player seeking.

I was just going to keep using MyDVD until Pinnacle figured out how to play nice with the DRU-500. Now I'm having problems that I did not have before since I've upgraded the firmware.

Does anyone know how to get back to the factory original version of the firmware - not the driver - but the firmware on the DRU-500a?

Sorry I couldn't answer your question - but at least you know there's someone else out there with the same problem...

  3. I also use Studio 8 and will be getting a new DRU-500A soon. What is the best way to configure it so Studio 8 will recognize it? I'm running XP Home.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

  4. In "Make Disk" mode a project will render and compile but freezes up when it goes to burn on my Sony DRU500A. My answer is to save the project to my hard drive and burn with Nero. This does have the advantage of allowing a test of the video_ts file.
