  1. I have tried to rip 2 DVDs using smartripper in the last few days and had the same problem each time.

The discs I attempted to rip were: Thumb Wars (Star wars parody)
    Westlife - Unbreakable (girlfriends!!!)

Both times I was able to rip part of the vob list, but not others. Some files play perfect on Power DVD, and will pass successfully thru DVD2AVI and TMpegEnc. Other files turn green and severely pixellate, and have poor sound quality. Have tried DVD Decrypter, but many of the files I want cannot be got thru decrypter, as it only looks for the largest movie

    Any suggestions?

I've had this problem with smartripper as well and I don't know what causes it. The solution for me was to just use a different ripper.

DVDdecryptor, and any other dvd ripper for that matter, will allow you to rip every vob on the dvd if you are in file mode. look at the toolbar up top and find Mode.

  3. Managed a rip with DVD decrypter in file mode, however I am still getting the same problem, just less frequently. Is it my machine?

Am ripping with a sony viao laptop using a dvd cdrw combo, an athlon 1400+, 256 mb ram, and win xp.

I am using the latest dvd decrypter (got from official site 2day), and smartripper 2.41

Hope this helps narrow the search any

Well a physical problem with the DVD can always cause problems but this sounds awfully similar to the problems I have had with smartripper. I am positive that the DVD was fine in my case as I was able to rip the same dvd with any other software yet got the same problems every single time with SmartRipper.

Of course check the DVD for scratches but if it looks ok then try DVD2SVCD's internal routines or avistrip. Those two never fail to properly rip any DVD.
