I have a 1.3ghz pentium 4 and only 128 mb of memory with a 20 gigabyte drive. I also have a 32mb video card if that matters. Can I even do dvd ripping with my computer or do I need to upgrade something. If I dont upgrade how long do you think it'll take me to make a dvd using a 2x ripping speed and these computer specs?

Is it possible -- yes of course. I have a 1.4 and it works fine. i dont burn to dvdr but to cd's. rippinga at 2x will be slow though my drive usually rips at 7x and takes about 12 minutes or less to rip a movie to the HD. With a 20gig HD you probably wont be able to have multiple movies on your HD at one time. My computer encodes a 2hr movie (SVCD w/ tmpgenc) in about 9 hours. so i usually encode while i sleep

  3. personally i have 1800xp and 512 ram and always ude 2x for ripping.

if the film doesnt need re-encoding about hour and half
if it needs re-encoding about 7 and half, but 6 of them i am in bed.

i would say you can never have enough ram memory.

  4. don't rip with dvd-burner... those are locked to 2x ripping speed! Buy 16x dvd-rom for ripping...

you're specs are ok... the videocard dosent matter... the processor and the memory => Speed

    Zzzzzzzzzzz
