Hey all. First post. OK, I've spent a lot of time reading this board, and have figured out much, but have one problem that I suspect is specific to my procedure, hence this post.
Basically, I'm capturing with my AIW 8500DV card in SVCD setting. I get great looking files(from satellite movies) from this capture. Then I split the files in two using Ulead Video Studio 5, using the "split video" feature, all in the template from the capture.
Then the problems start. If I don't split the file (small enough) Nero accepts and burns the file without re-encoding. But, the CD created is unrecognized by my system as a (S)VCD. ATI VCD player won't play, WMP doesn't acknowledge a disc in the drive, PowerDVD gives an unsupported format message. If I poke around on the disc I can find/play the movie, but I'm trying to make standalone DVD compatible discs. (I don't own a standalone myself, and live in the middle of nowhere so running next door to see if they work is not an option). Also, I'm using CDRs with blue dye right now and I've heard this may be a problem?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Many DVD player will NOT PLAY SVCD!

I have several Sony DVD, a Pioneer (i think that one does but Pioneer seem play about anything, some models anyway) and a Panasonic.

May I suggest you either burn std VCD (low res) or go DVD. DVD-R has the best compatability and great performance. Heck 704x480 is better than 480x480 anyway.
