    HI,

Currently I capture using an ATI AIW 128 Pro and an Analog (high 8 ) Sony camcorder.

On this, I can capture a thigher than 352 by 240 AVI (say 720 by 480) but anything higher than 352 by 480 goes from progressive to Interlaced which causes horrible motion blur.

I have added an Iee1394 and will be purchasing a digital camcorder (500 line plus model)

If I do, will I be able to capture progressive, higher or will I still be restricted ? Using VDUB but I have Video factory and Ulead (even adobe premier I can capture with)

Help is appreciated because I want to know it is worth buying the digital cam...THANKS !

Need a few details from you. What codec are you using? Are you capturing in RGB24 or YUY2? In my setup (pinnacle pctv) I have found using the mainconcept codec, selecting rgb24, no preview, that I can capture at 720x480. Before when I used the YUY2 setting I was getting jerkiness on my final mpg's. I use Vdub to capture with, tmpgenc to encode with. Rgb24 made a world of difference to me.

Oh my ..You may have given me something to try. Everyone tells me that yes, you get interlace but thats okay. And I kept saying NO , its not okay because the interlace was giving my final MPEG a drunk look on motion

Has become better with a new WDM driver that just came out (Sept) but I am going to try what you said.

I still need to know about DIGITAL video though...Thanks

    Acrorob,

What OS are you using? I have the same card (16MB version) using Windos XP and I can only capture up 240 lines of horizontal resolution for AVIs. When I had Win 98SE I was able to capture up to 480. I use MMC 7.2 since V-dub drops too many frames and I have frequent no audio captures. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

  5. DV isn't captured but imported to your computer which means that you get exactly what your camcorder filmed or passed through (if you have a pass through feature). By default, DV is 720x480 and almost always interlaced. Very few camcorders are progressive (although they sometives have progessive image stills). You can de-interlaced when encoding to mpeg-2 but I don't think that it is a good idea if you will play the DVD or VCD on your TV.

Thank you ! Thats what I needed to know.

Its funny, I recently and magically (to me) seemed to solve the interlaced motion blur problem I was originally having with captured analog at higher than 352 by 240.

I got a new driver from ATI (dated sept 2002) and magically, while i can still see the interlace lines while rendering, once complete, converted , etc. as interlaced , it is great.

Prior to that I tried every test imaginable ...

Now I use VDUB and Capture at 720 by 480 (analog sony )

Use video factory to play with the clips and spit out another AVI , same format.

Give it to TMPG and create an MPEG 2 and they are great !!

Thank you for the DV info...Seem to have it narrowed down to a JVC 820 MINIDV format or SONY TRV740 DIgital 8.
