  1. Hi,

I'm really happy using Ulead's DVD Workshop 1.3, but for some reason i can't capture DVD ready video as i get an error when i try and capture using the WDW driver for my Avermedia TV 203 card, but this isn't crucial.....

So i capture video using the VCR function of the AverTV software, which allows me to capture video at 720 X 576, Video Bit Rate of 6400 KBits/s, Sample Rate to 44.1Khz and Audio Bit Rate of 224KBits/s - all of these can be user defined.

For a cheap PCI TV Card this captures great quality flawless video and audio

But, i would have assumed that such a high capture spec would make a DVD compliant file, but DVD Workshop seems to think not so it goes off and re-encodes the video etc....

The outcome is great but at various points it seems to have dropped some frames, ie for a second or 2 the previous frame is shown and playback continues normally and most imporantly the video and audio remain in sync.

If i check the original captured video these flaws are not there.

What i'd like to know is how to prevent this or what settings i should use in my capture software so that DVD Workshop doesn't need to re-encode the video.

    Any help greatly appreciated

  2. The audio sample rate needs to be 48KHz for it to be DVD compliant.

  3. What about fps - should this be set to 25fps or 29.5fps?

  4. If you are in a PAL region 720x576 @ 25fps
If you are in an NTSC region 720x480 @ 29.97fps

Also make sure you have the box ticked that says something like, do not reencode if DVD compliant.

Aren't you capturing to .avi? In that case you have to encode to .mpg before you have a compliant DVD file. You can encode either outside of DVD WS (using TMPGEnc or other encoder) in which DVD WS will not re-encode (if you check the option), or inside DVD WS as you are presently doing.

  7. No, i'm capturing mpeg2 from within the VCR option of my AverMedia TV Sutdio software.

For some reason i get an error when i try and capture from within DWS - maybe it doesn't like the WDW driver?...

I'm trying a capture of 720 X 576 at 25fps, 48Khz and hopefully DWS won't try and re-encode that despite the fact that i've told it not to
