I am trying to get my computer up to snuff to record my digital cable programs through the computer instead of using my Tivo which if I get this accomplished soon enough I can take my Tivo back and get my $350 back. I have a few questions if someone could help me out:

Are there any tuner cards that can bring in more channels then the standard 125 channels that most cards seem to advertise.....reason being I have digital cable with alot more then 125 channels and would like to be able to record a movie on HBO or a pay per view ect if I wanted to.

I have a really good video card so a full blown radeon would prolly be doubling up but I would be willing to do that if a tuner card only would not give me the best results.

I have easy access to AIW cards through Best Buy which is close but have no idea how good they are.

Can anyone help me find a few cards that would fit my needs?

    Thanks!!

  2. the problem with digital cable is just that... it's digital. you can only buy (as far as i know) analog tv tuners for your computer... so you won't be able to use it to decode the digital signal from your cable. the only way to get around this is to use the cable box to decode the signal, then feed that into your analog card... but then you'd need a way to control your cable box from the computer. why not just keep the tivo? i have one with digital cable, and it works flawlessly, even controls the cable box fine using the little IR thingy.

  5. Howdy,

The digital cable in my area has like 30 of so analog channels 2 thru 38 which is the basic cable package. These channels can be viewed by any television I want to run cable to. To be able to watch digital cabel I need a Digital Cable Box to decode the signal which adds channels 39 thru 105. I'll need that box on every televison I want to watch it on.

So in your case you'd need an extra digital cable box which i'm guessing you have to use with our cable system. Then a capture card that has composite video in and use the box as your tunner.
