AC3 audio probem

I have a Divx file that has an AC3 audio stream. It plays just fine. Using AC3-fix, HeadAC3ache, TMPGenc, along with other programs it has issues being recognized. I've tried so many programs I can not even list them anymore It either tells me it does not recognize the file, converts it to .WAV but I can not hear anything or converts it to wav but only keeps every 4th frame. The rest of the dropped frames report unrecoverable CRC errors. However it plays just fine. Not only that If I drag the AVI to MyDVD it converts to .WAV just fine. But I have to wait for the video to also be converted. It is an unecessary (3-4hour+) step because I'm running it through TMPGenc anyway. Is there any program that will correct the AC3 audio correctly without me having to do the video as well?

Well one possible solution is to not convert it to wav but keep it as is. You mention using MyDVD, so I guess you are intending to create a DVD-video with this. Using an authoring program such as Spruce up or Ulead DVD WS you can keep the Ac3 audio on your final disk, much better than converting it to a stereo wav.

I tried to do a direct stream copy but it also fails with "unrecognizable format". Using programs that are AC3 aware. Nandub, TMPGence, etc. I would actually prefer to keep it AC3. I am going to have to reconvert to AC3 anyway from the .WAV. In .WAV format the audio takes up about 7GB!

Something wrong there or you have a VERY long movie. IIRC, uncompressed PCM is what you get on audio CD so 80mins = 700Mb.

Have you tried direct stream copy with virtualdub, (it doesnt need to be Ac3 aware), followed by Ac3fix then import into spruce up. Works for me!

I did save as .WAV with settings at Direct stream copy. It productes a 170MB file that plays absolutely nothing. It is 2 channel 192kbps audio so that sounds about right. It plays garbage if I mux it with the video. The .WAV does sound quite large. I've only did half of the movie so far. When I ripped it back off it came out to over 3.5GB. Hopefully I can now convert it to a working AC3 with reasonable size. This is the only time I've had problems with AC3. Do you think it could be some new type of copy protection? These problems could have been the reason the person who created it to begin with kept the format in AC3 form.

LOL. It was only 1.3-1.4GB total. That is what I get for looking at it at 5am The TOTAL was 7GB.
