I recently started a post on the Pioneer DV-525 and why it doesn't play certain CD-R discs, and I was told it's probably due to a hardware malfunction in the player itself. But, after encoding and burning a VCD myself, and seeing that it plays perfectly on the Pioneer, I'm not convinced that's the case.
Accoding to the VCDHelp review of my player, it should be able to play most, if not all, these formats.
I'm wondering if there's a PC app/tool out there that can help determine the exact type of VCD (VCD|SVCD|XVCD|CVCD|etc) that's burned on a CD-R? At least this would help me determine the delineating factor as to why some discs play fine, and some dont play at all.

  2. load the mpeg into bitrate viewer. It will display, as well as a graph of the bitrate, the FPS, resolution etc. Compare these numbers with the know specs for the various formats.

Thanks bugster. "Bitrate Viewer" is not freeware, so I downloaded "MPEGProperties", which seems to do the same thing.
I'm looking at the stats on VCDHelp's video format comparison web page, but it doesn't seem to include bit rate (unless I'm missing it).
Is there another resource to determine media type stats, where bit rate is included (or more evident)?

  4. Look to the left hand colum of this very page. Right at the tp is a section labelled WHAT IS. Each description includes technical specs including bitrate.

Yeah, I'd say that's evident enough
    Thanks bugster
