  1. I have 11 files of MPEG2 from a captured video. ScenAlyzer broke the video up into 9 minute files. I have tried to use every way I know to join the files back together.

    Captured using Canopus ADVC-100 with ScenAlyzer. Converted to MPEG2 using TMPGen. (And I cannot seem to join them together in TMPGen because they are different somehow?) Original avi files have been deleted.

    I downloaded EditStudio and even the wonderful tech support cannot help me. I have VideoWave 4 that came with my firewire card and that is a joke. Joined the MPEG2 but nowhere in the help or documentation (or online tech support) does it tell you HOW to make a VCD from the produced storyline. It just says it does and never tells you how.
    Nero doesn't recognize the VideoWave created file as a video file.

    I looked at Avisynth and find it extremely confusing so maybe someone here can help me.

    My understanding of Avisynth is that I write some type of syntax in WordPad then when I burn the CD I take the WorkPad file and sandwich it between the MPEG files?

    I have downloaded Avisynth, read the page "first script" and still feel like a complete idiot/newbie. If anyone can explain the process I would truly appreciate it. Yes, I have read the directions on VCDhelp and the Avisynth site. I cannot figure out how I am supposed to use the scripts.

    Anyone? Please?
    TIA

  2. I find it hard to believe the TMPGEnc can't join them - you'll have to explain what that means in more detail......

    You don't really say WHY you want to join them. Do you want to create an SVCD?
    Do you need to transcode them to VCD (which is what it looks like you want to do).

    If that's what you want to do - just use DVD2AVI/TMPGENC to transcode each segment to VCD, then join them with TMPGENC.

    You also could "probably" just burn the files as consecutive tracks on the VCD (I don't remember whether players will "hiccup" or be smooth between the tracks - someone else probably knows whether this would work or not).

    You have to be more specific here. You cannot join video files that are:
    1) different sizes,
    2) different framerates,
    3) different sound formats,
    4) etc, etc, etc.

    Load up each file in Bitrate Viewer and determine the frame sizes (ie, 720x480), the framerates (ie, 29.97 or 23.976) of each one. Before they can be joined, these values all have to be equal. Once equal, TMPG > FILE > MPEG TOOLS > MERGE/CUT will be able to join them with ease. AviSynth can also join them using this script:

    V1=mpeg2source("D:\MY_VIDEO_1.D2V")
    V2=mpeg2source("D:\MY_VIDEO_2.D2V")
    V3=mpeg2source("D:\MY_VIDEO_3.D2V")
    V4=mpeg2source("D:\MY_VIDEO_4.D2V")

    OUTPUT=V1+V2+V3+V4

    RETURN OUTPUT

  4. Vid Guy,

    This is the program and the error message I receive. I don't know why it is an incompatible file since I used the exact same settings to convert the file originally. Everytime I try to join the Mpeg's, I am told a different file is incompatible. There is no rhyme nor reason for the change. A bug perhaps?

    I open Under MPEG Tool--Merge & Cut Tab:

    Type: MPEG-2 Super VideoCD[VBR]

    Adding file type:
    MPEG stream

    Error Message:
    File (gives name of one of the files).mpg is not compatible with other MPEG file.

    Yes, I am trying to make a SVCD using Nero to play in my stand alone DVD. I wanted to create a menu to be able to go to sections of the "tape" since it was a how-to video I am creating.

    Dazed and ready to throw the whole thing out the window.

  5. SLK001,

    I do not know how they are different since TMPGen says the files are incompatible. But when I converted the avi to MPEG I set everything the same and didn't change any settings.
    1) Every single file is 192,064 KB in size except the last one (which I haven't even tried to join)
    2) All the framerates are 29.97
    3) I didn't change the sound formats in any of the files. Audio was captured into SceneAlyzer along with the video. No changes.

    SuperVideo-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480X480 29.97fps CBR 2520kbs, Layer-2 44100Hz 22 is the information about the file given in TMPGen.

    I used the bitrate program and hope this is what you are asking for...the average bitrae is 2377 in one file and 2379 in another. But this is just an average. Does this make a differece? I know there is an easier way to get the bitrate in TMPGenc but I have reams of printouts of all the information on VCDHelp and cannot find the paper where the "simple" way to get the bitrate is given.

    As for the script to use in AviSynth, thank you. But...
    Think of me as the dummy who cannot even figure out how to open the program please. I know how to turn the computer on
    Where o' where do I put the script please. And how exactly do I use it? And how do I get Avisynth onto my computer?

    When I go to open the Avisynth file, the message I get has to do with the operating system which does not make sense to me. Sorry to be so dense.

    I am not actually a newbie. We just built this computer and I do understand quite a bit. I took Basic DOS in the 80's but that is as far as I have gone. And I wasn't even very good at it.

    Thanks to all of you for taking the time to help me.
