    The Pioneer DVD-R/RW drives will only do 2X burn on media which has been certified for higher-speed burning; otherwise, it always defaults to 1X. This is something built into the drive's internal firmware, and can't be overridden by the burning software.

    TDK is one such 2X-certified brand that I've used with the Pioneer drive. Que!, and Apple, also work at 2X.

  3. I bought some memorex dvd-r media from best buy, it said that its Version 2.0 disc. Unless it actuall means 1x. Im not sure, i was just curios if I could burn a dvd faster. It takes about an hour to copy a dvd. But let me know if I have the right media.

    Version != speed.

    Pioneer has only certified a couple of blank media for 2x writing. If the drive does not detect these excat type of media it will only burn at 1x.

    Version 2.0 simply means that it conforms to the DVD Forum's specification for 4.7Gb write-once DVD-R media -- as opposed to the older Version 1.x, which was/is limited to 3.9Gb. (Obviously, you don't find much 1.x media around anymore, at least not in the DVD-R(General) market. You can still find DVD-R(Authoring) in 3.9Gb form, though.)

    Of course, just to confuse the issue, the "latest" version of rewritable DVD-RW media is Version 1.1, which is also 4.7Gb media. Hence, my firm belief that all technical-standards committe members should be required to submit themselves, once a year, to a public bitch-slapping.

    In any case, as Snowmoon says, the Version number has nothing to do with the recording speed.

  7. hi,
    solarfox makes a good point about the public bitch slapping- it should be mandatory, and possibly televised for charity.
    i personally found that using two different types of dvd-r media that were both rated for 2x speed on my pioneer both only resulted in 1x burns.
    these were intenso and general mirror.

  8. There is one firmware update on the Pionner site to allow High speed writting.
    I already installed but till now always I get only 1x.
    I'm using only "Intenso".... may be it is the reason....

    PS. I insert annother post concerning Ulead DVD Worshop. Please see it!
