  1. Anyone tell me if it worth encoding svcd to dvd!
or does the fact that the svcd mpeg has already been encoded before mean that there is not much picture quality to be gained from encoding to dvd?

You cant gain quality by re-encoding something.

Your output will never look better than your source, you can probably get it too look the same but then your file size is bigger and there would be no point to do this

Here is a thought. In the future why not do 352x480 SVCD. Then when you want to transfer to DVD this will be no sweat to do, since 352x480 is half-DVD resolution.

  4. Oh yeah sure, now u tell us that. That's what I just figured out *knock head against wall*, and now I'm trying to use the TMPGEnce template, puertorican CVD located in the Tools section to the left.

If your going to create an SVCD with plans to convert to DVD in the future you should also encode your audio at a 48000 sample rate. 48000 is required by DVD and unless you encode at 48000 you'll need to re-sample the audio for your DVD conversion. I've converted a few SVCD's to DVD,and while it's true image quality cant be improved I find that DVD/SVCD somehow looks better. May just be my imagination but the DVD looks smoother, more film like.

  7. puertorican138,

I do I do, although I did alter it a bit, ABR=2100, MAX=3000. I thought this may give a smoother image when dealing with faster motion and yet still be a much smaller file size than SVCD. Also, switched to the bottom field B on interlaced. But other than that it's perfect! Thanks.

  8. well! think I'll give the svcd to dvd a miss! I kinda thought I would get those answers! just wanted someone to confirm it!
some of the files you get from ermm a certain place on the net are bin and cue files!
that was the reason I asked in the first place! so also saves me a lot of bother downloading them!
    cheers
