Firmware upgrade for Kiiro X5 DVD Player in UK

Just got a new X5, only to discover it won't play VCD / SVCD or DVD-R without a firmware upgrade ?
Is this an available-on-the-net upgrade or is it, as I suspect, a cunning plan by Kiiro to extract a little more money from the customers ?

I'm keen to use the player to view my own disks, so any help would be gratefully rec'd.

Hi All,

I see there's a lot of views but no replies, so maybe this will help you all out if you are in the same situation as I.

I e-mailed Kirii direct and they sent me a copy of the new firmware.
Now it plays VCDs and everything else too !

It even plays DVD's authored on those rotten Vivastar DVD-R blanks that so many of us bought in bulk from Scan over here in the UK !!

YIPPEE !! Thought I was never gonna find a use for those darned things !

I'm extremely happy with this unit now.
If anyone else wants the firmware update, drop me a line and I'll e-mail it to you.

One final word - if anyone wants to buy one of these babies - check around for prices ! I found them all the way from £170 downwards.
Cheapest I found was Special Reserve for £109.

So not the cheapest but a nice little unit.
