I have quite a few .AVI files and I know that I must encode these to .MPG to be able to copy to a VCD. When I encode you are given a few options, e.g. MPEG-1 (System), MPEG-1 (Video-CD) etc. Which one do I use. I have various encoders like TMPGEnc, Panasonic and Xing, which ones the best.

TMPGE does it for me.
Go to the Tools section to your left and download some of the fine Templates for TMPGE on offer.
This will automatically choose the setting for you.
(MPEG-1 Video CD is what you want ....btw.
