DVD-R playback on PC

After making a backup of my original movies i cant get them to playback on my pc, not unless i use a dvd-rw, i use white label gen 4 discs, they work fine on my home player any suggestions please.

When you say Gen 4 discs I am assuming that you are using the 4x DVD-Rs. I remeber reading somewhere that there was compatability issues using the 4X media. Basically DVD drives were not able to identify the media. If this is the problem that you are having then you should check with the manufacturer's website to see if there are firmware updates available. Else try some 2X media.
