I noticed this program has been updated...but is anybody still using it?
I mean it was the first software I ever tried making VCDs with....but then the holy trio: SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, TMPEng became my one and only method of doing things.
Anybody tried the new version?...any reviews are appreciated.
THX.

flaskmpeg has a lotta benefits over dvd2avi...
1) subtitles w/o having to use vobsub/vdub
2) allows you to choose different angles in a multi-angle or seemless branching DVD (i.e. theatrical version and director's version in the same set of vobs) -
I still use FlaskMPEG for standard VCD DVD rips.
Again, the benefits as stated by poopyhead. IMHO, for hard-encoded subs for VCDs, FlaskMPEG is a much more polished solution. Also as long as you ripped the entire disc, you can test out EVERY sub on the disc and preview it before you encode.
As FlaskMPEG does IFO parsing, you can encode multiangle, seemless branching / multititle vobsets without ripping the vobs multiple times. That's great for ripping special features from a disc (especially if the disc has a lot of special features material).
I haven't tried out the new 0.7.x versions yet though...

I also still use it. Okay the alternate versions XMPeg but it's the same. Combined with the CCE encoder codec, it gives the same (or better) quality as TMPGenc besides use TMPGenc for cutting and joining.
My holy quintet is DVDDecrypter for ripping - FlasK w/CCE codec for encoding - TPGenc for cutting - VCDEasy for mastering - CDRWin for burning.
With FlasK you don't need DVD2AVI either. It indeed supports subtitles. And again with the CCE codec it's much faster as TMPGenc.
Besides I still think FlasK gives nicer/brighter colors as TMPGenc. Probably because a difference in settings, but I compared FlasK basic to TMPGenc basic.
The only con of FlasK / XMpeg was it's a little buggy and might suddenly crash or not even start. I hope this will be solved with this new verion. Haven't tested it yet.
