for whats probably a frequent question, but:

i want to play VCD's on my computer, have WMP7.01, cant access the DAT's. using ISObuster i can extract them. so, is there a, i dunno, patch for windows or some such thing, that enables playback without extracting the DAT's first, i.e. in realtime?

you misunderstand me. double clicking on the dat file brings the message "cannot read from source file or disk" -but- using Iso buster, i can extract the DAT's, and play them in media player without converting them. however, i don't want the hassle of extracting 700meg for every single disc. all i want is to be able double click on the dats and make sodding windows actually read the disc.

    ok, let me try again.

I have aleady looked in the PLAY section, i'm not stupid. it says to try Media player, and another player, such as power DVD. i have done this. media player says "format not supported" and powerDVD says "disc may be scratched making it unreadable" so, they don't work. i followed the link "if you have trouble......" and looked for SCSI1HLP.VXD and CDR4VSD.VXD. i had them both, so tried renaming both inidivdually and at the same time, and then replacing scsi1hlp.vxd with the one from the link on the discussion thread, all to no avail. i want to know how to get window to talk to my cd-rom properly.

  7. Hi,

The only way to make windows "talk" to you cd-rom drive, is to connect some speaker to your soundcard and aim them directly at your cd-rom drive.

    I just couldn't resist, sorry......

Have you tried using another cd-rom drive. Perhaps this one is faulty, or doesn't support VCD discs very well. Cleaning it might help.
