  1. I am trying to re-encode a svcd to make it smaller but when I load it up in TMPGnc it will not open it. An error says it is unsupported. Any ideas out there???

If you get an error message when opening the video or audio like file unsupported
or you get an empty(black) video preview window
or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink
Be sure that you have installed the DivX Codecs (both DivX 3.11, 4 and 5) and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack. If that does not work try to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

You need to follow the How to convert[SVCD] to VCD with DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc guide in the convert section, even though you are not actually converting to VCD. The techniques are the same.

You can either get an mpeg2 codec (they are around), use dvd2avi - as stated above, or run the file thru Flask. If it's 2 disc the flask option will allow joining of the 2 mpegs if you rename them vts***.vob sequentially.
