I have two Pioneer DV-444's and I'm re-encoding DVD's to fit onto a DVD-R. I had a problem with two of my movies so far. When I play the movie the video skips towards the end. The first 5 chapters are fine. There is no scratches on the cd. I select chapter 12 and the player freezes or it will play and skip like crazy. When I playback on my computer the DVD-R is fine. When I tried the DVD-R in my other DV-444 it played fine for about 10 min. then started to skip again. If anyone knows what the hell is going on please reply!!

Are you using very cheap media? This happens alot with some players and cheap media. As you get nearer the end of the disk the tracks become more dense and harder to read, so if the player isjust barely cutting it though most of the movie toward the end it can do this.
Not sure if its you problem or not but its something to check into. Its a problem I myself had before I setteled on some media that gave decent results/overall cost. Of course I *WISH* it was even cheaper but right now until I noticed bid price drops all around I've decied that since I've found one that works for me I'll go with what I know. -
I see what can see what you mean but I'm using TDK & Memorex from CompUSA. There about $3 each. I think they are pretty damn good quality. At least I know TDK is. Keep in mind if the DVD player is turned off for a good 3-4 hours and then I try and play the DVD-R it plays fine for a good 10-15 min (i went to chaper 12 when i first put it in). It almost like it is over heating or something or the laser gets tired (heh). I don't know... What do you think about the Lense Cleaning kits... What's the best one if I should try that. It's a pioneer!!! This player was great until this happened!!

I have a DV-444 and have played Princo, DVD Pro, and the so called TDK's you see all over the place. I had one bad batch of Princo's that did what your discs are doing but everything else works flawlessly.
What type of burner are you using? I have a Pioneer DVR-7000 and Pioneer A03's. -
I have a Panasonic (Matshita) DVD-Ram LF-D311. I'm using Instant VOB DVD to burn it. Check out my post in the DVD to DVD-R form. I explain the problem in detail there....

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE REPLYS!!! -
I have also run into the same problem. My girlfriend has the Pioneer DV-444 and we constantly run into problems with any DVD-r that goes over 100 minutes. It doesn't matter if the movie was burned from the internet or a backup of one my dvd's. When I play the same dvd-r on my XBOX or other DVD players there is no problem. I have already made one warranty exchange for her becuase the problem was begining to effect any original movie we rented, in addition to the dvd-r. We got a new player but it didn't seem to fix the problem with the burned movies as they now again skip towards the end. I guess we will just buy another player and take test dvd-r's to check out before we buy.
