  1. Hi!

A few hours ago, but after much deliberation, I bought the Asus DVR 104 DVD-R/RW, which is basically the Pioneer 104.

As soon as I installed it, I immediately started the 'Disk Wizard' in the 'Cyberlink Power Director Pro' software that came with the drive, this part of the software allows me to easily burn a DVD. I already had a lot of AVI files on my hard disk and selected a smallish file and followed the instructions to burn a DVD. Note I selected US NTSC format. My DVD player (we'll come to that later) plays only region 1, I bought the Asus Drive in Asia, where I am and where the standard is region 2, I think. Anyway, after a long time, the DVD burned successfully, and I was able to play this DVD on both WinDVD as well as Asus DVD player that came with it. Note that I used the RW disk that came with the drive to burn this DVD. My Region 1 DVD player is the Sharp DV-740, which has played all the CDRs and everything else that I have thrown at it for the last one year.

Unfortunately, the DVD that was burnt on the Asus RW disk, does NOT work on my Sharp DV-740. I do not have access to another standalone DVD player to see if this disk is playable in any other. I would have been content if I had used some kind of cheap media and that didn't play on the standalone player. What I am worried about is that I have never heard of anyone complaining that they had problems reading from the RW disks provided.

Could it be a region issue? When the movie was playing in the computer, I went to properties, and noted that the 'title media was Region 1,2,3,4,5,6 all'. Note the original movie/clip that I burnt was in NTSC also.

I am aware I may be overreacting just a bit but I sure would be grateful if anyone who has gone through these share your experiences with me..

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Rick

  2. It could be an issue of your DVD player just not supporting the RW. Try burning the same project on a DVD-R.
