  1. PAL DVD2DVD the easy guide.

    Prog's needed

    PowerDVDXP Deluxe V4
    Smart ripper V2.41
    DVD2AVI V1.76 with VFAPI plug-in
    TEMPGEnc V2.58.44.152
    ChapterXtractor V0.961
    DVDmaestro V2.9 - Build 2915A
    Paint Shop Pro
    Nero V5.9.9.0

    1. Insert DVD into Rom and play the movie for around 30 seconds to unlock the drive etc.

    2. Open up Smart Ripperand it will auto detect the disc and its contents.
    3. Select a target folder for storing the ripped vobs (at the icon towards the bottom of the prog)
    4. Now select Start (you can leave all settings as default) The process begins await finish around 20-30 mins.

    5. Open up DVD2AVI
    6. FILE-Open In new window double click the first Vob (1.vob)
    A new window then opens again highlight the first vob then select OK
    7. FILE-SAVE PROJECT Select the same folder as in point 3 name and save
    (I usually name them the same as the film ie BHD (for Black Hawk Down).
    The film will start to encode automaticaly and two files are created AC3 & .d2v This process also takes around 20-30 mins.

    8. Open up TMPGEnc (use wizzard and select the following)
    1/5 DVD PAL, VBR 4000,
    2/5 Select req'd video and audio source, Interlace.Bottom field first, 16:9,
    3/5 Soursc Range - click on Move to End Frame then Set End frame then OK
    OTHER SETTINGS - VIDEO- 2pass VBR(VBR), Interlace, 10 bits, MES(fast)
    ADVANCE - Interlace, Bottom field first (field B), 16:9 Display, Keep aspect ratio 2
    GOP STRUCTURE - Tick output bitstream and detect scene
    Quantize matrix - Tick no motion search
    Audio - Joint Stero
    4/5 DVD R 43.7GB (UDF) in ESTIMATED FILE SIZE highlight and put 4070 MB

    VERY IMPORTANT YOU WILL NEED THIS LATER "WRITE DOWN THE AVERAGE VIDEO BITRATE" ( TOP BOX )

    Now close down and re-open with out the wizzard

    9. VIDEO SOURCE Browse to target folder (point 3) and select the .d2v file
    10. AUDIO SOURCE Browse to target folder (point 3) and select the AC3 file
    11. STREAM TYPE choose ES (Video&Audio)
    12. Output file should now show files to be saved as (m1v+mp2)
    12. Now hit the settings button and select the following in order top to bottom in the VIDEO Tab
    M-PEG 2, 720x576, 4:3 Display, 25 fps, 2 Pass VBR(VBR) (CHANGE THIS ONE AFTER SELECTING THE ?bitrate? & 224 SETTING),
    ?bitrate?, 224, (now change to 2 Pass VBR(VBR), Main Profile & Main Level(MP@ML), Pal, Interlace, 4:2:0, 10 bits, Motion Estimate Search(fast).
    NOTE THE "?BITRATE?" IS THE BITRATE YOU WROTE DOWN WHILST IN THE WIZZARD.
    13. select the following in order top to bottom in the Video Tab
    Interlace, Bottom field first(field B), 16:9 Display, Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio 2)
    14. Double click on Source Range click the move to end frame button then click the set end frame button.
    The Number of frames now appears in the end frame white box then select OK
    15. select the following in order top to bottom in the GOP structure Tab
    1, 4, 2, 1, 15, Place ticks only in output bitstream and Detect scene
    16. Select the following on the Quantize Matrix Tab - Default and tick the No Motion Search
    17. select the following in order top to bottom in the AUDIO Tab
    M-PEG 1 Audio Layer 2, 48000, Joint Stereo, Error protection, None, NOW HIT OK.
    18. Choose the save button and save template as(Your initials + DVD) For the future just hit load and load your template
    ( Tip still always check theses settings as they still tend to move even from loading your saved template)Also dont
    forget your bitrate setting will need changing film to film
    19. Check ES is still selected and check in the grey box the settings for your films output if all is well hit START.
    Time now depends on your machines performance best done over-night.

    20. Now open up DVD Maestro
    21. FILE-Preferences and in the general tab select PAL
    22. In greyed out box of bottom right hand corner right click and then select Import Media asset.
    23. In the Import Media pop up window select M_Peg Video Files at the bottom in files of type category
    24. Now you will have two files present a M-Peg and .m2v Double click each of these in turn and they will load into Maestro.
    25. FILE-SAVE AS now save so you wont have to go through that long process again during the making of this DVD
    26. In Project Tree double click on MOVIE 1 and a new window opens up.
    27. DRag and drop the mp2 file to the Audio line 1 channel and the .d2v file to the movie channel (keep both to the far left)
    28. Right click on the audio channel and select your languauge as ENG (English) (This is only done as a precautionary check)

    29. Open up ChapterXtractor
    30. FORMATS TAB under Presets choose SVCD(hh:mms:cc)
    31. Open IFO and browse to and select the original IFO file (ripped from the original DVD by SmartRipper) and select.
    32. A List of all the chapter/scenes appears with the time codes. Highlight all and CTRL+C (copy)
    33. Open Notepad and CTRL+V (paste) now print off for easy reference.
    34. Close Notepad and ChapterXtractor and re-open DVD Maestro.
    35. Still in Movie 1 - Now Double click the light grey chapter line above the movie line and a window appears with Chapter 2
    36. Using the printed chapter/scene time sheet enter the times required in full. Chapter 1 is always the begining of the movie.
    ( I only select a max of 10 chapters choosing from the various time codes printed)
    37. At the bottom of the ABC is a grey bar with 4:3 click this and select 16:9.
    38. Now save again (7th icon from left looks like a floppy disc)

    39. Choose a picture to open up in Paint Shop Pro and resize to 720 x 560 Pixels (Images Tab)
    40. Now using the font tool import (write) in bold white text "Play Movie" & "Chapters" into the pictue and save
    Make sure they are at least 1" away from any edge and there is enough space between each one to draw a box around later.
    41. SAVE AS MM1.jpg
    42. Now draw a box around the white text Not to close and then flood fill to black
    then flood fill all the rest of the picture to white.
    43. You land up with a black shape or shapes on white background. Save as MM2.jpg
    44. Repeat steps 39 to 43 but replace the text with "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10" (The number of chapters)
    Save as Chap1.jpg & Chap2.jpg as before ( you can create as many menu's as you like in any format)
    45. Repeat step 22 and browse to MM1, MM2 Chap1 & Chap2 and import each one.
    46. Click on the second icon along (top left) NEW MENU and a second will be added to the project tree.
    47. Double click on Menu 1 a new window appears. Select the following, BUTTON PREVIEW - Selection Colour, VIEW LAYER - Both
    All five boxes should be ticked and aspect retio change to 16x9
    48. Drag and drop MM1 into the white box area (Your picture appears)
    49. Drag and drop MM2 onto the picture (the white writting now appears blue)dont worry this is correct.
    50. Now click and draw around each previously written text ie "Play Movie" "Chapters" as in point 40.
    Do not allow the boxes to over-lap/touch. Each box has a number.
    51. Click on the advance tab and then click on the Auto Assign button then go back to the colour mapping tab
    52. THE BLACK COLOUR MAP 2 Line - change values only to the following 0,3,0. (you can leave everything else)
    53. Got to the Button tab to check its operation by clicking on a button in the picture/frame.
    54. Repeat for Chap1 /Chap2 (48-53) SELECT
    55. Double click on MENU 1 and right click inside of each button to assign task ie
    BUTTON 1 - "Play movie" (direct to Movie - Movie 1 - Chapter 1)
    Button 2 - "Chapters" (direct to Menu - Menu 2 - Menu 2 No Button)
    56. Double click on MENU 2 also right click inside of each button and assign ie
    1 - (direct to Movie - Movie 1 - Chapter 1)
    2 - (direct to Movie - Movie 1 - Chapter 2)
    3 - (direct to Movie - Movie 1 - Chapter 3)
    4 - (direct to Movie - Movie 1 - Chapter 4) and so on.

    57. Close down the movie and two menu boxes if still open.
    58. Left click the mENU's folder in the project tree
    59. In the Connection Window - to the right of first play under TARGET'S, (right click) and browse to Menu - Menu 1 - No Buttons
    60. Repeat the same to Title Menu as well.
    61. Now save again.
    62. Hit the 12th icon along it looks like a Bar-Code
    63. In the Directory selection select where you want to save the DVD Folders.
    64. Once chosen the DVD will start to compile in the left hand bottow whitw window.
    65. Compiler will open up and inform you of any problems if any dont burn. ( If there is you havent followed Guide properly)
    66. Remove the .lay file from the VIDEO_TS folder and Burn with Nero
    67. ENJOY YOUR MOVIE.
